Alfred the Poisoner

Goblins are unique among the fae in that they do not have True Names - not even in the watered down sense that humans do. Most goblins use names, and some pick up persistent nicknames, but there is no part of a goblin's name that holds occult power or is inherently tied to the individual. This limits the kinds of magic that a goblin can do - they can't perform spells that require the caster's identity as part of the formula - but also renders them more or less immune to magical coercion and most forms of targeted scrying.

The lack of a true name also means that goblins cannot be meaningfully sworn to any of the various faery Courts - many minor fae are solitary by preference, but goblins are inherently independent. Many are gregarious and enjoy living among others, both goblin and otherwise, but goblin family groups and social circles tend to be fluid and it can be difficult to keep track of individuals. There are a very few permanent goblin settlements and institutions - one of these is Hillock House, a hospital, laboratory, and occasional orphanage located a short distance off of the Queens' Road. Alfred is one of the three current full-time residents of Hillock House, the other two being the physician Jenny Leech and Alfred's apprentice, Jenny Little.

Alfred and Jenny Leech grew up as apprentices at Hillock House, along with a third goblin child who would grow up to be notorious goblin bandit Rose o' Roads. Rose is still a frequent visitor to the House - sometimes because their chosen career means they need medical care, but more often as a friend of the staff (and an absolutely terrible influence on Jenny Little). Alfred complains about Rose's antics, but the two of them have been best friends since they were kids and mostly he just worries that someday they're going to get more hurt than he and Jenny Leech can fix. Also he'd really like it if Rose and Jenny Leech would stop dancing around each other and just date already.

Appearance Wiry build, three and a half feet tall, dusty red complexion and dark grey hair and eyes. Hair is short, messy, and poorly cut, with a pronounced widow's peak. Scar over left eye. Ears are mobile and emotive, with multiple piercings and tears, and end in ragged tufts of fine, dark hair. Lower eyeteeth sometimes show when his mouth is closed. Goblins have a flexible grasp of gender, but Alfred is usually read as male and has no objections.

Demeanor Self-assured and generally friendly. Avoids physical confrontation when at all possible. A little long-suffering in the face of other people's antics, but rarely makes any real effort to discourage said antics as long as no one's getting hurt.

Sound Rough tenor voice; accent isn't going to be an exact match to any real-world regional accent, but is not dissimilar to a rural Pacific Northwest American accent.

Scent Generally clean and relatively neutral; occasionally may have lingering scents of chemicals, herbs, or smoke.

Mental Information Well organized and methodical. Usually cannot be targeted directly with mind reading, although he can be effected by spells or abilities that target an unspecified target within range or similar.

Magical Information Some affinity for minor fire magics; considerable expertise in alchemy and herbalism, although he wouldn't describe either of those as magic, exactly. In most cases, cannot be magically compelled and cannot be directly targeted by divination magics.

Physical Affection Alfred will accept most chaste forms of physical affection with a little grumbling but no real objections. More intimate actions are extremely CR dependent; unwelcome, aggressive advances are likely to be met with lecturing and/or threats.

Physical Violence He's a tiny nerd and I'd like to avoid seriously injuring him. Scrapes and bruises are ok if things get confrontational, but please talk to me before doing anything that would be disabling or disfiguring. I'm not interested in killing him at this time.

Relationships Open to it with appropriate CR lead up, but Alfred's not particularly focused on romance and is rarely physically attracted to human-sized people.
